I woke up as the morning dawned. With a time difference of 2 hours, my eyes opened around 4 o’clock, and I leisurely gazed at the riverside. At 6 o’clock, I had a place to go. When you visit Bangkok, be sure to visit the vibrant Damnoen Saduak Floating Market the next morning. It’s a place where you can feel a sense of devotion while watching the rowing boats. Plus, you can buy fruits at a reasonable price and experience the morning atmosphere of Bangkok. If you’re staying near Kaosan, I highly recommend visiting this place.
I decided to take a taxi. The taxis that I called early Sunday morning seemed to be trying to bargain the fare. They initially quoted 200 Baht, but I managed to agree on 100 Baht. It seems the road conditions have improved as the roads are now paved with asphalt bricks, although it doesn’t have the same atmosphere as before. Nonetheless, I felt a natural respect for the locals’ religious devotion as I observed the scene of monks’ alms-giving and listened to their teachings.
I bought mangoes for 40 Baht and the good ones for 50 Baht per 2 kilograms. As for the mangosteens, I paid 80 Baht for 10, and out of those, 2 were not in good condition, but overall it was still good. I also bought some seagars and dates, although I didn’t particularly enjoy the taste of the dates as they were somewhat sour.
After that, I went to have breakfast. The Okura Prestige Bangkok is known for its stunning views, but the breakfast was not outstanding. We came here mainly for the swimming pool. Now it’s time to head to the pool.
The hamburger we had at the pool was even tastier than the breakfast. However, the pool felt a bit deep and it made me a little nervous. Even though the place had a resort-like atmosphere and was beautiful, it didn’t feel as relaxing as I expected.
So, after the much-anticipated visit to Orchid Sheraton, we headed to Siam via the Ratchadamnoen Avenue.
If you’re staying near Kaosan, a visit to the vibrant Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a must. This bustling market offers a unique experience where you can witness rowing boats and feel a sense of devotion while exploring the market stalls. It’s a great place to buy fresh fruits at reasonable prices and immerse yourself in the morning atmosphere of Bangkok.
To get to the market, you can consider taking a taxi. Keep in mind that bargaining for the fare might be necessary, and you can aim for a lower price than the initial quote. The roads leading to the market are now paved with asphalt bricks, which provides better road conditions. As you travel, you might come across scenes of monks’ alms-giving and their teachings, reflecting the locals’ religious devotion.
At the market, don’t miss out on the opportunity to try the delicious mangoes and mangosteens. You can easily find vendors selling mangoes for 40 Baht and good-quality ones for 50 Baht per 2 kilograms. As for mangosteens, you can purchase 10 for 80 Baht, although it’s worth checking the condition of each fruit before buying.
After exploring the market, it’s time to indulge in a delightful breakfast. While the Okura Prestige Bangkok, known for its stunning views, may not offer an outstanding breakfast, it still provides a pleasant dining experience. However, the real highlight of this accommodation is its swimming pool. Take a dip and enjoy the resort-like atmosphere, although be mindful that the depth of the pool might make some individuals feel a bit nervous.
To further enhance your stay, consider visiting the nearby Orchid Sheraton. With its proximity to your accommodation, it’s a convenient option. From there, you can take a trip to Siam via the scenic Ratchadamnoen Avenue, which promises an enjoyable journey.
Overall, staying near Kaosan offers a range of enticing tourist attractions and activities to explore. From the lively Damnoen Saduak Floating Market to the serene swimming pool experience at Okura Prestige Bangkok, there is something for everyone. So, immerse yourself in the vibrant morning atmosphere of Bangkok and make the most of your stay in this captivating city.
