I had trouble hailing a Bolt ride when I wanted to go to Northeast after getting a massage in Chinatown. A tuk-tuk driver passing by offered to take me there for 300 baht, which was quite surprising. I declined the offer as I knew that Bolt usually costs around 110 baht. Continuing to walk, I noticed a couple trying to negotiate with a taxi driver near the entrance of Chinatown. Their negotiation attempt seemed to fail, and they asked the driver where they should go next. They mentioned Room Phinipark Northeast Restaurant while searching on Google. The taxi driver agreed to take them there for 200 baht, which was more reasonable compared to the tuk-tuk driver’s offer of 300 baht. However, the traffic was really congested and it took them an hour to reach their destination, but they were grateful to only pay 200 baht for the ride. They even gave the driver a tip.
Having arrived at Room Phinipark Northeast Restaurant, they were worried about the wait, but luckily, they were seated within just 30 minutes. The couple enjoyed a hearty meal with delicious food, particularly enjoying the Soft Shell Crab in Curry without the shells. The husband mentioned that it was the best Soft Shell Crab in Curry he had ever tasted. They also liked the tasty Deep-Fried Freshwater Fish, although they noticed a slight earthy taste. The payment process was convenient and easy, as they were able to use GNL for the transaction.
Although they had visited Thailand multiple times, this was their first time riding a tuk-tuk, as they had previously been concerned about the safety. However, they found the experience quite enjoyable and even managed to negotiate the fare down to 150 baht from the initial 200 baht.
After their visit to Northeast, they returned to Chinatown, which was bustling with people and felt hot and chaotic. They joked that it wouldn’t be fun if it wasn’t a bit challenging to navigate through the crowd.
If you’re staying in the Chinatown area and looking for nearby tourist attractions or activities to explore, there are a few options that I can recommend. One popular destination is the Temple of the Golden Buddha, also known as Wat Traimit. This temple houses a stunning solid gold Buddha statue, which is considered one of the most valuable treasures in the world. Visitors can learn about the history and significance of the statue while appreciating its intricate details.
Another notable attraction is the Grand Palace, located just a short distance from Chinatown. This iconic landmark is a must-visit when in Bangkok, as it showcases the grandeur and rich history of Thailand. Inside the complex, you’ll find the Emerald Buddha, an exquisite and revered statue that attracts millions of visitors each year.
For a taste of local culture and vibrant street life, a visit to Yaowarat Road is highly recommended. This bustling street is the heart of Chinatown and offers a lively atmosphere with a wide array of street food vendors, vibrant markets, and traditional Chinese temples. It’s the perfect place to indulge in delicious local cuisine, shop for unique souvenirs, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.
If you’re interested in exploring the city through its waterways, a boat tour along the Chao Phraya River is a great option. This scenic river flows through Bangkok, offering a different perspective of the city’s landmarks and attractions. You can hop on a river taxi or join a guided tour to explore famous sites like Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, and the floating markets.
For a more relaxed and serene experience, consider visiting Lumphini Park. This park provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, with beautiful green landscapes, a large lake, and plenty of recreational activities. You can take a leisurely stroll, rent a paddleboat on the lake, or simply sit back and enjoy the tranquility.
Lastly, if you’re interested in exploring traditional Thai markets, Talad Mai or Pak Khlong Talad is a must-visit. This wholesale flower market operates 24/7 and is the largest flower market in Bangkok. Here, you can witness the bustling trade of vibrant blooms and immerse yourself in the sights and smells of fresh flowers.
These are just a few of the many attractions and activities that you can explore during your stay in the Chinatown area. Each offers a unique experience and allows you to delve deeper into the rich culture and vibrant atmosphere of Bangkok.
