Bangkok trip Day 1 – Chatuchak to Wat Saket to Khao San Night Market

Review of Day 1 – Chatuchak to Wat Saket to Khao San Night Market

Yesterday’s schedule was quite relaxed. After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, I headed out to explore various tourist attractions. I started with Wat Sacket, a temple located in Jaddujak. It was interesting to see that many houses were now transformed into shops selling plants. The newly built Mixed Jaddujak building was clean and refreshing, and it reminded me of the affordable prices in Thailand. As for Wat Sacket, there was a temporary pause in the rain, allowing me to visit without any concerns. Wearing shorts and a top wasn’t allowed inside the temple, so I purchased sarongs for 150 baht each as souvenirs and later used them as makeshift rain covers. The staircase leading up to Wat Sacket was visually appealing, offering a nice view from the top.

Afterwards, I visited Tipsa Mai, a place I hadn’t been to before due to the long queues. However, since it was conveniently located just below Wat Sacket, I decided to walk there. Despite expecting it to open at 5 PM, it seemed to be already operating as there were quite a few people there. Although the staff continuously recommended expensive items, they were friendly and efficiently cleared the tables as soon as the food arrived. The orange juice at Tipsa Mai was particularly delicious.

On my way to Khaosan Road, I stumbled upon a street food stall and couldn’t resist trying their delicacies. Street food in Thailand is truly delightful, and the grilled skewers, priced at 30 baht each, were exceptionally tasty. The grilled skewers turned out to be a great combination with the fried insects I bought later at the Jat Pheer Night Market.

Upon entering Khaosan Road, I indulged in a foot massage for 250 baht. The masseur initially offered a package including shoulder and foot massage for 300 baht, but was kind enough to reduce the price to 250 baht. The atmosphere of Khaosan Road was greatly enjoyed by my teenagers, as they embraced the youthful vibe.

Since Dalaat Lotz Pie 2 was closed, I decided to visit the newly opened Jat Pheer Night Market, which was impressively clean. Curiosity led me to try Langsat fruit, a popular item found in abundance at the market. Although I entered a random shop, I realized later that there was an even better restaurant midway through the market, serving deliciously spicy dishes with a flavorful broth. The meat was a bit tough to eat, making it challenging, whereas the recommended restaurant on the blog had easily tendered meat.

Due to the rain, I sought shelter at Central Plaza for a while, and sadly couldn’t explore much. Nonetheless, despite the inconvenience caused by the weather, it was a fulfilling day.

If you’re looking for some nearby tourist attractions or activities to explore during your stay, there are a few recommendations that I have based on your accommodation reviews.

One highly recommended tourist attraction is Wat Sacket, a beautiful temple located in Jaddujak. It offers a unique experience as you can see that many houses in the area have been transformed into shops selling plants. The newly built Mixed Jaddujak building nearby is also worth a visit, as it provides a clean and refreshing atmosphere reminiscent of the affordable prices in Thailand. At Wat Sacket, be sure to admire the visually appealing staircase leading up to the temple, which offers a nice view from the top.

Another interesting place to visit nearby is Tipsa Mai. Although there may be long queues, it is conveniently located just below Wat Sacket, making it easily accessible. Despite the possibility of the place opening earlier than expected, it’s definitely worth trying their delicious food and refreshing orange juice. The staff may recommend some expensive items, but they are friendly and efficient.

If you’re a food lover, you can’t miss the street food stalls in the area. There are some delightful delicacies to try, such as the grilled skewers that are priced reasonably at 30 baht each. You might also want to experience the local night markets, like the Jat Pheer Night Market, where you can find a variety of interesting items and tasty food. Don’t be afraid to try something different, like the Langsat fruit, which is popular in abundance at the market.

For some relaxation, consider indulging in a foot massage at one of the establishments in Khaosan Road. The atmosphere of this vibrant area is particularly enjoyed by younger visitors, and you might be able to enjoy some additional discounts if you negotiate with the masseurs. While you’re there, you can explore the lively street and soak in the youthful vibe.

If you have time and the weather permits, you could also visit Central Plaza, which unfortunately had limited exploration due to the rain. However, it’s a great option if you’re seeking some shelter and want to escape the rain for a while.

Overall, there are plenty of interesting tourist attractions and activities to explore near your accommodation. Whether it’s visiting temples, trying local street food, or indulging in a foot massage, you’ll find a variety of options to make your stay fulfilling and memorable.
