I have previously stayed in classic hotels such as Anantara Siem Reap and Hyatt Era Wan, and now I decided to try something different by choosing Athenee. One of the reasons I chose this hotel is because of its swimming pool, which operates until 10 pm and has a spacious size with a depth of 1.5 meters, which I personally found very appealing. Another great feature of the hotel is its adjoining rooftop garden next to the swimming pool. It’s a delightful experience to swim and enjoy the night view while taking a stroll around the garden and it leaves you feeling refreshed.
The hotel’s location is quite impressive, with numerous banks, embassies, hotels, and business buildings surrounding it. The skyline view from the hotel is quite breathtaking, especially considering the well-known landmarks such as the Dutch and US embassies, making it comparable to the view from Lumpini Park.
This is my third visit to Thailand, and I am not familiar with hotel chains or memberships. However, I noticed that Marriott seems to have different levels of accommodations since I stayed on the 22nd floor and Marriott’s “The Bonvoy” was mentioned during my check-in process. Although my listening skills are not the best, I believe they mentioned something about registering me. Apologies for not providing more details.
During my stay from August 2nd to August 13th, the weather was generally cloudy and not excessively hot, but yesterday was exceptionally sunny. The lobby’s well-maintained landscaping and natural lighting create a perfect setting for taking beautiful photographs.
The hotel provides THANN spa brand amenities, which are well-stocked and have a pleasant scent. I particularly enjoyed the body lotion, which has a fragrance reminiscent of a body mist that lasts for a considerable amount of time.
The swimming pool itself is spacious and has a unique charm with its blue tiled flooring, giving it an exotic feel. Additionally, there is a separate pool for children with a shallow depth for them to enjoy.
The presence of the Netherlands and US embassies nearby adds to the view from the hotel, which is equally impressive as the view of Lumpini Park. Another noteworthy building is the distinctive Shin Don Kempinski building.
The beds are exceptionally comfortable and spacious, making it tempting to relax in the room after breakfast while enjoying the city view and the photos I just took.
After this 12-day trip, this hotel will be my final stop before returning to Korea on the day after tomorrow.
The hotel staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is of high quality with a menu reminiscent of a cooked meal. They even serve delicious sorbets and fresh fruit juice. The bread is also quite tasty.
As for the hotel’s disadvantages, I cannot think of any major ones. If I had to mention something, it would be the hotel’s central location, which can sometimes cause traffic congestion and difficulties for taxis. Therefore, I mostly relied on using the BTS (Skytrain) for transportation.
I hope you all have an enjoyable and safe trip!
For tourists staying at Athenee, there are several nearby tourist attractions and activities that I would recommend. One of the main advantages of this hotel is its central location, surrounded by banks, embassies, hotels, and business buildings. This provides visitors with easy access to many popular destinations in Bangkok.
Firstly, you may consider exploring the nearby Lumpini Park, which offers a serene and peaceful escape from the bustling city. It is a great place for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or even a morning jog. With beautiful greenery, lakes, and various wildlife, it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature.
Additionally, you might want to visit the nearby Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest and most vibrant markets in Thailand. Here, you can find an extensive range of products including clothing, handicrafts, souvenirs, and delicious street food. It is a must-visit for shopaholics and those wishing to experience the local culture.
Another attraction worth visiting is the Grand Palace. Located just a short distance from the hotel, it is a stunning complex of buildings that served as the residence of the Kings of Thailand. The exquisite architecture and intricate details are simply breathtaking, making it a favorite among tourists.
For those interested in history and culture, a visit to the Wat Arun temple is highly recommended. Known as the Temple of Dawn, it is famous for its beautiful design and riverside location. Climbing to the top of the temple offers a mesmerizing view of the Chao Phraya River and the surrounding area.
Moreover, a river cruise along the Chao Phraya River is a popular activity for tourists in Bangkok. You can hop on a boat and explore the city from a different perspective, passing by iconic landmarks such as the Wat Arun and the Grand Palace while enjoying the cool breeze and scenic views.
Lastly, you may want to experience the vibrant nightlife in Bangkok by visiting the Sukhumvit area, which is easily accessible via the BTS Skytrain. Here, you can find an array of bars, clubs, and restaurants offering both local and international cuisines. It’s a great place to unwind, socialize, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere.
Overall, there are plenty of attractions and activities to explore near Athenee, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable stay in Bangkok.
